Bride’s Names, Age, Job and where she lives:

Nicky Galloway, 30, Environmental Engineer, San Diego, California

Groom’s Name, Age, Job and where he lives:

Matt Robinson, 35, Commercial Real Estate Broker

How you two met:

We met on eHarmony in 2012. Our first date was on September 23, 2012 at Pizza Port
in Carlsbad, California for pizza and beer. We got married on our five year anniversary on
September 23, 2017.

What was your first impression of each other?:

Matt – What an incredible woman she is. So caring, thoughtful, intelligent, funny, good
at drinking beer, and she’s so down to earth. I sure am lucky I met this one!

Nicky – I remember being very impressed with Matt’s attentiveness before we even
met. He used the online dating message questions to write a personal message to me
and incorporated our past conversations rather than providing “stock responses.”
When we first met in person, he was very sweet, handsome, and easy to talk to – I
remember not wanting the night to end and being so excited when he set up our
second date at the end of our first date. But he has continued to impress me with his
kindness, heart, work-ethic, and love.

When did each of you know you were in love?:

Matt – When I was an hour late to our date due to traffic and she had a whiskey drink and a big hug waiting for me upon my arrival.

Nicky – I knew I was in love with Matt very early into dating him, and I let it slip earlier than intended 🙂 I fell in love quickly with Matt because it was easy to see his kind heart, his funny sense of humor, his desire to live life to the fullest, and his love for me. Although I had never cried at a wedding as a guest before meeting Matt, but the first wedding we went to after we started dating, I was overcome with waterworks and absolutely knew how much I loved this man. Once I realized how happy I was with him and pictured my life together with him and knew this was what I wanted forever. I’ve cried at every wedding since because it reminds me of him and how much we love each other.

How did the proposal happen?:

Matt planned a surprise weekend trip to Laguna Beach and had already scouted out several coves for the proposal. We took a walk along the beach in the evening. Matt wanted it to be a private moment and since the first cove was filled with families taking family portraits, couples taking engagement pictures, and kids playing, we continued our walk to the next cove. We arrived just before sunset and had the cove to ourselves. Matt proposed before sunset and we enjoyed our own moment barefoot on the beach at sunset before heading out to celebrate with a delicious dinner! We will be heading back to Laguna Beach to celebrate our engagement and plan to visit the cove where we got engaged.

Style of the wedding:

We’re aiming for a timeless style wedding with a touch of tropical beach and surf influence. Our wedding was on tropical island in San Diego with a dog friendly resort so our family could all stay and our pup could be our ring bearer. We also wanted a family oriented wedding and our parents were both included on the invitations, in a special family wine ceremony during our wedding ceremony, and through dances and toasts at our reception.

Colors:

Slate blue with blush pink, white, and greenery accents.

Theme:

Our wedding theme was a mix of a little bit of classic/timeless, tropical, family, and surfing 🙂

Anything unique happen or with decor?:

Since Matt is a surfer and we love the beach, we wanted to ensure the wedding wasn’t overly feminine and that our guests saw the groom’s perspective as well. The boutonnieres for the groom, groomsmen, and fathers included flowers placed on wooden surfboards created by the bride/Nicky’s dad. Small matching surfboards were also attached to the signs utilized throughout the décor at the bar with the drink menu, at the gift table, at the seating card table, etc. The guestbook was also a custom wooden surfboard with our wedding colors, names, and the date for guests to leave a message. Then the groom, groomsmen, fathers, and cousin who escorted Ace, the ring bearer pup, had socks with ocean waves on them. The bridesmaids dresses were a slate blue and mix-and- match style so each bridesmaid got to select her favorite style, but the length, material, color were the same. The bridesmaids and bride all had custom champagne glasses for the morning of the wedding that were hand painted with their dress on the glass.

If you had to pick a favorite moment of the day what would it be?:

Matt – Kissing my beautiful wife! A close second was running through the tunnel of sparklers.

Nicky – It is so hard to pick one! But I think I would have to say the ceremony was my favorite part. I remember only seeing Matt walking down the aisle and I felt so much love surrounding us and loved our family wine ceremony. Since our parents joined us at the alter and our officiant prepared some really nice words describing how important our families are to us by relating it to nurturing vines to create wine. Each mom poured a glass of wine and the Robinson’s made a toast with me welcoming me as a part of their family and the Galloway’s did the same for Matt. Next, all of us made a toast together to joining our two families. It was a special moment because we are close to each of our families! I also loved our vows. Due to my water work, we wrote them together one weekend when we visited our venue, Paradise Point, and we felt they really represented us as a couple and our future goals and aspirations together.
