A Romantic Garden Wedding Set Under an Oak Tree

Bride’s Names, Age, Job and where she lives:

Nicole Colclough, 33, Pure Barre Instructor & Stitch Fix Stylist, Novato

Groom’s Name, Age, Job and where he lives:

David Colclough, 35, Police Officer, Novato

How you two met:

From our wedding website:
It was New Year’s Eve weekend and neither Nicole nor Dave had originally planned to be in Lake Tahoe, yet as fate would have it, they both wound up there with friends. On January 2, 2016 they both started their night out with friends at the ever-so-lovely Cabo Wabo dive bar in Harvey’s Casino (suuuper romantic). Dave was with his best friend’s younger brother and his group of friends, and Nicole was out with her partner-in-crime, Wendy. Being the true gentleman that he is, Dave made his way over to the bar where Nicole and Wendy were chatting, and offered to buy the ladies a drink.

Dave and Nicole started chatting – both intrigued by each other’s charm and warm smiles – and pleasantly surprised by how natural and easy conversation came. But the night was young, and their friends were anxious to move on, so they bid farewell and parted ways. It was hours later that same night when they bumped (almost literally) into each other again. Nicole and Wendy were exiting the dance club as Dave and his friends were entering.

With the crazy number of people that flood South Shore for the holiday weekend, it was surprising that they ran into each other again…but perhaps this was fate’s second attempt at crossing their paths. They ended up dancing the night away into the wee hours of the morning (side note: this is where Dave would add that he won Nicole over with his super smooth “dad” dance moves), and when it came time to part ways again, Dave made sure to get Nicole’s phone number. With he in Novato at the time, and Nicole in San Jose, almost a month would pass before they would finally go out on their first date for wine and tapas at Cin-Cin in Los Gatos. But when that first date finally did happen, it was clear that their paths were meant to cross a million times over…he was her person and she was his.

What was your first impression of each other?:

Nicole: I remember thinking he was handsome and seemed warm and friendly. He had super genuine smile!

Dave: I thought Nicole was very cute and seemed friendly/approachable so I decided to walk over and introduce myself.

When did each of you know you were in love?:

Nicole: I think I knew deep down I had fallen hard on date 2. Our date number 2 was not planned at all – it was actually very spontaneous. I had already committed to watching my niece Charley for the night and my mom was watching my nephew for the night and we had made plans earlier in the day to go bowling on Saturday night, so Dave had no other choice but to come along for the ride! My heart melted when I saw Dave interact with my niece and nephew. Kids LOVE him! He is so fun and goofy, and in that moment, I think I just knew.

Dave: I was going away on a trip with the boys shortly after we had met, and while apart from Nicole it became more and more evident just how much I cared about her and missed her and all I wanted was to get home to her.

How did the proposal happen?:

It was the weekend of his brother’s wedding in Sebastopol, CA. Dave’s family had rented a house in town and we all spent the weekend together. My parents were also in town for the wedding weekend and came over to join the BBQ. It also happened to be Mother’s Day weekend – and my first Mother’s Day as a new mom.

On Sunday, we all gathered for a BBQ/pool party at the Colclough’s rental house and were enjoying the beautiful weather. At one point in the afternoon, Dave came outside with Harper and I noticed that he had changed her outfit…I couldn’t see the front of her onesie because of the way he was holding her (I also didn’t think anything of this because at the time, she was just over four months old and we were constantly changing her!). He turned down the music and walked over to me, turned Harper around and it took me a moment to process what her onesie said: “Mommy, will you marry Daddy?” I immediately burst into happy tears, and of course said YES to both Dave and our daughter, Harper!

Style of the wedding:

Elegant Romantic Garden

Colors:

Shades of natural pastels including ivory, cream, beige, and sage green, with a pop
of deep scarlet and burgundy

Theme:

Rustic elegant

Anything unique happen or with decor?:

As we were exchanging vows, a powerful gust of wind came through and literally levitated my veil straight up into the air (I mean, STRAIGHT UP!). It was beautiful and magical – it was as if our loved ones in heaven were watching over our us and giving us their blessing. It was surreal and many of our guests felt that magical moment and later shared their experience/interpretation with us.

If you had to pick a favorite moment of the day what would it be?:

Dave: As Harper came down the aisle (in Nicole’s sisters arms), she saw me at the end standing there, and she screamed “Dada!” It made everyone laugh out loud, including me! Of course, my all time favorite moment was seeing my bride for the first time, walk down the aisle towards me.

Nicole: Seeing Dave and Harper at the end of the aisle smiling and patiently waiting for me as I processed down the aisle with my Dad.

What was the most fun part of the wedding to plan?:

Nicole & Dave: All the “taste testing” – the wine at Campovida, the dinner menu, and especially the dessert tasting at Moustache Baked Goods!

Nicole: I also really enjoyed writing my vows and selecting ceremony readings for Dave’s sister to read at our wedding (she was our officiant).
