Q+A: Meet Jordin

Q. What was your main motivation for starting Unica Forma?

A. I was looking for invitations for my own wedding in September of 2016 and couldn’t find anything that I liked. Everything was too “expected” and I really wanted something more unique and custom. I browsed for hours and decided, you know what? I know how to do this, so I am going to make my own. So I did. I posted them on Facebook, and people I knew in real life started inquiring. After about the 5th person to ask, I thought to myself, “hmm maybe this could be a real thing”. From there, my husband, Charlie and I, did some research on what it takes to be a business legally and how to print on card stock. Almost 2 years later, and here we are!

Q. What are some books you think everyone in their twenties should read?

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. I think everyone should read that, not just someone in their twenties. It’s a really fast read, but it’s worth reading over and over throughout different points in your life.

Q. What are your favorite pizza toppings?

Pepperoni and banana peppers. I like sausage too, but my go-to is Pepperoni and banana peppers for sure. However, Charlie is a super picky eater and only likes cheese, so that’s what we usually get.

Q. If you could have dinner with anyone (famous, not famous, alive, dead — anyone!), who would it be?

My Grandma Emily. She passed away in April of 2017 sort of on a whim. She felt ill, was checked into the ICU and passed away 15 days later – still in the ICU. I wasn’t really “ready”. Or able to comprehend what was really happening at the time. I would love to have one more conversation with her to, at the least, tell her what she meant to me and how much she has influenced the person I want to become. She was the sweetest, purest, most gentle human being I’ve ever known.

Q. What’s your most embarrassing childhood memory?

I honestly don’t know. Is that bad?

Q. How did you come up with the name Unica Forma?

My husband. When we were trying to set this entire business up for me he was googling names/languages/etc. Unica Forma means Unique Form. It was between that and Unicum Charta (which means unique paper). I actually was leaning towards Unicum Charta; but everyone I tell this to is always like omg Unica Forma is so much better. I don’t really think there is much difference personally. But, Unica Forma does sound “softer”.

Q. What is one of your worst habits?

Picking my face!!! I honestly love it, but I know it isn’t a good habit to have. I am one of those pimple popping connoisseurs. Except I really don’t like watching it happen on other people. It’s gross. But if it’s my own face, I’m all for it! (I actually get excited when I get a super pop-able whitehead……)

Q. Where is your favorite place to vacation? Where is #1 on your bucket list?

So far, Curacao. I went there over Christmas break with my (now) husband’s family for the first time. It doesn’t hurt that their condo is amazing and right on the beach. Charlie and I also went there for our honeymoon. The island amazing. It’s small, so you can get from one end of the island to the other in about an hour. It’s relatively under developed, but still safe. At 24 years old, it’s my current dream retirement location.

really want to go to Santorini, Greece. This is a new found desire, actually. I really haven’t been outside of the US other than the Caribbean, Canada and Mexico. I want to travel the other side of the world. But Santorini is at the very top of the list.

Q. What programs do you use to design your invitations?

I use Adobe Creative Cloud. So, Photoshop, InDesign & Illustrator. I also use Adobe Acrobat to make my PDF proofs for clients. Oh! And, I just got an iPad Pro so I use ProCreate on there now too! It’s super fun to play around with.
