A Traditional Burgundy and Navy Wedding in New York

Your Name, Age, Job & Where You’re From:

Samantha Simmons, 29, School Psychologist, Long Island, New York

Your Spouse’s Name, Age, Job & Where They’re From:

Christopher Spata, 29, ABA Therapist, Long Island, New York

How You Two Met:

We both met while studying our undergraduate degree at St. Joseph’s College on Long Island. My now best friend of 10+ years was a mutual friend and essentially the reason we started talking.

What was your first impression of each other?

I thought he was weird lol (he had long hair at the time). He thought I made a lot of weird faces (I’m very animated) but also that I was cute and easy to talk to.

How did you know you were in love?

When we realized how comfortable with each other we were even after just a short time of dating. We felt like we had known each other forever.

How did the proposal happen?

Chris took me on a picnic at a park near his house on our 7th anniversary. He suggested we go on the swings, and as I was walking towards them, I turned around and he was on one knee holding a ring box.

What was the style of your wedding?

It didn’t have a specific style, but was very classy, elegant, and simple.

What were your colors? What did the bridal party wear?

Burgundy (the girls wore this) with some navy, ivory, and dark pinks.

Did you have any unique features in the decor?

Not that I can think of.

What was your favorite part of the wedding to plan?

The menu, the invitations, and choosing the gifts for our bridal party.

If you had to pick a favorite moment of the day what would it be??

When we were introduced as the new Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Spata in front of all of our family and friends.

Did you do a first look? Why/why not? Are you happy about that decision?

Yes we did and we were very happy about it. It gave us a lot of extra time after the ceremony because we had taken so many pictures beforehand.
