I am a graphic designer and web designer with Showit who specialized in helping creatives showcasing their business in a gorgeous way, and my business is Brand Me Gorgeous. I am 30 something years old, married with four children. Two of my children are still at home and the other two have flown the nest.
I have a passion for pets as I have two dogs, two cats, four bunnies, and some fish. I live in Homosassa Florida but I am originally from Ohio. I’m a very family oriented person and I cherish being with my loved ones. I homeschool my younger two children, so we are able to spend a lot of time together and go explore.
I started photography in 2009 and stopped photography full time in about 2015. Moving to Florida was hard, as my client base was in Ohio. I really didn’t have anyone I know here that I could start building relationships with to grow a successful photography business. So for the last four years, I have done some photography sessions here in Florida as well as some weddings. I even went back to Ohio a few years ago to shoot a wedding for someone I know. I do still love photography but my focus has been branding and web design for the last 3 years.
Around about 2006 I knew I wanted to be in the field of computers and or IT. However, I didn’t believe in myself enough to push for what I wanted to do. So instead, I went for what was flowing in my life at the time. Meaning my husband went to school to be a Massage Therapist and Chiropractor Assistant. So my husband and I had plans to open our own business and I was going to do the billing and office work. So I went to college for Medical Office Billing and Coding as well as Human Resources.
However, I really love the photography industry and I kept finding myself also helping other photographers. I started by mostly doing photo editing for other photographers and that just turned into photographers asking me if I could build a website or design them a logo or pricing guide.
Typically a custom website takes 4 to 8 weeks from start to finish. It depends a little on who I am working with and their schedule. Some of my clients have more time than others so those that have a bit more free time tend to go a bit quicker than those who don’t. If I am doing website customization those take about one to two weeks to complete.
This is probably my favorite question! I love my business name! The name Brand Me Gorgeous happened because I want to attract and work with mainly woman who is attracted to pretty and gorgeous things. I myself tend to really love and be attracted to things that are girly. I’ve always loved flowers, colors that are bright like pastels, handwritten fonts, design elements and that reflect a woman in business. It’s also a known proven fact that when people buy things they do so base on feelings. So I wanted my business name to reflect not only what I do but also who my ideal client is. Brand me stands for what I do, which is branding; creating my clients business identity; Gorgeous stands for doing so in a way that attracts.
Before being a photographer, was also before I had children and had to be a responsible person. Lol Believe it or not in High School I was in a career program for Auto Body. I was a tomboy so I worked on cars. After High School, I had a lot of jobs, unfortunately. I worked in the food service industry, a few factories and even worked in a bar a few years. So I was kind of all over the place a bit.
My ideal client would be someone who values not only what I do but the direction in which I would advise them. I want someone who trusts’s me and feels that I have their best interests at heart.
My five-year plan involves offering courses and bringing on more help to my team. I hope to add my husband into the business as well as building relationships with more businesses in the industry.
Thank you! Master is such a strong word ha-ha but I would say it took me about 6 months or so to really learn all the nuts and bolts, ins and outs of the program. Technology is always changing so that requires always learning new things. Also, Showit is so amazing and there is so little that actually can’t be done so finding new ways to do things on the back end is always so much fun!
I think the biggest tip to using Showit, especially if you’re new to it. Is to understand and know the correct terms for what most everything is called, inside the program. For Example; a website is created by using Pages with Showit and inside those pages are sections called, canvases, site canvases, and canvases with canvas views. Sounds confusing right? That’s because it is until you understand what they are and what they do.
I recommend going to Showits website help section and reading up on how to use Showit or watch some videos they have as well. When I first started using Showit my biggest struggle was trying to find out what I wanted to do, was called. But once I figured out the correct terms I was able to easily search for it and read a tutorial or watch a video on how to do it.
My other tip would be to join the Showit Users Facebook group. You can ask any Showit related questions and we designers are always helpful as well as just Showit users who have already done what you’re looking to do.
I saw on your website that you live in Florida, and love the outdoors. Where is your favorite place to travel in the area?
My favorite local place to go to is probably Weeki Wachee Springs. We have a state park that is located on the spring’s water and it is a mix of a water park with some animals they take care of as well as a live Mermaid show! Yes, we have Mermaids who get in the water and perform a show. It’s pretty amazing to see. The spring also has a kayak rental where you can row down the springs and see the Manatees. You can see more information on their website https://weekiwachee.com/
I think any time I spend quality time with my family is perfect. Rather that is sitting at home watching a movie, swimming in the pool after a cookout, or heading to the beach.
